Kidz, Inc. is a non-profit foundation developed to
meet the needs of Alabama's foster children.
Having grown up in foster care with only the basics,
Dr. Martin devotes much of her time to children to
ensure they live in the best possible world they can. To
that end, she has devoted herself to making a difference
for these children. It is not a huge gesture; anyone can
do it. She asks for
donations. These donations might include clothes, toys, books,
but also might include sheets, beds, stereos, and so on.
Dr. Martin believes foster children should grow up in as
normalized an environment as possible. And because
foster care pays the foster parents very little, there
is frequently not enough to give these children the same
types of items our own children might have.
More often than not, these children have few options
to insure a prosperous future. They are not given cars
at graduation. They may not own anything but a garbage
bag full of clothes even when they leave foster care at
18-19 years. But they have the same potential as any
child and merely need a hand up. For this, Kidz, Inc.
would also like to set up scholarships and funds to help
pay for books, housing, and transportation so these
children can know a brighter future than that which they
left.
It is the philosophy of Kidz, Inc. that because
Alabamians pay taxes, we are not relieved of the burden
of providing basic comforts and safety for our children
in foster care. The next time you do a spring cleaning
and find you have anything that a child with very little
might enjoy, think of Kidz. It takes very little to
accomplish great things. Foster children who are raised
with love and dignity can achieve great things!
The need Kidz, Inc. faces immediately is a building
or store front suitable to organize the collections to
date so they may be distributed to foster families. Call
or email with inquiries or donations.
